Judge Dismisses Cheung Yin Sun Lawsuit

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015

Having been named Phil Ivey’s partner in an Atlantic City lawsuit, Cheung Yin Sun recently lost an additional lawsuit involving the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. Sun along with two additional players were suing the casino for winnings as well as deposit funds after they were denied the money and accused of cheating the casino.

A judge dismissed the case this week and none of the gamblers will be receiving the money they believe is rightfully theirs, some $3 million. The individuals of the case had visited the casino in 2011 and used what they are calling a legal method of card sorting to determine which cards were in play. The non-playing sides of the cards reportedly had distinguishing marks that helped the gamblers make the appropriate moves to win a ton of cash.

With this case, the gamblers had deposited $1.6 milllion to play the mini-baccarat game and then won $1.1 million. All the money was kept by the casino based on what they were calling methods of cheating. The gamblers filed the lawsuit seeking $100,000 each for damages as they say the casino was in violation of their civil rights.

However, the case was dismissed as the owner of the casino is an Indian tribe and the judge ruled tribal sovereignty in the case. Sun also had a case in the United Kingdom in which she lost based on edge-sorting. Sun, along with Phil Ivey, failed to recover $12.1 million in winnings they earned from Crockfords casino due to edge-sorting. The casino refused to pay and won in court, never having to pay up the millions of dollars in winnings.

The two now have an on-going lawsuit against the Borgata for $9.6 million, which is still pending. If this case goes the same as previous attempts, the gamblers will never see any profit from their edge-sorting scheming.

Ivey Poker Closes Temporarily

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

file4741238088930After months of hype and promotion, Ivey Poker opened for players to learn the game of poker for a better experience at the felt or online. The site featured information from top pros including Ivey and offered services for beginners as well as intermediate players. The site first launched in January of this year and has now decided to close down on a temporary basis.

The online poker training site was founded and branded based on Phil Ivey and the pro has now announced the site will be taking a break. The announcement came via social media and on Twitter Ivey stated that the site will be closed to prepare for a better and bigger site.

Ivey stated that since the site was launched, a few things have been learned in the process. The site is dedicated to the loyal community base and they want to communicate to players that there will be changes coming over the next few months. The site has closed down, after this weekend, to begin the first steps to launch a bigger and better gaming experience for players.

Ivey further stated that they appreciate everything that players have done for Ivey Poker and they hope to continue to grow and evolve as 2015 arrives. Apparently the site is working on product extensions and new categories for the site for the coming New Year. With the announcement, the site also released a new video that shows new training content will be added next year for players to enjoy.

It will be interesting to see what Ivey has planned for 2015. Many are speculating that the pro is shutting down the site due to legal troubles with his case in London as well as Atlantic City based on edge sorting in baccarat. Only time will tell if Ivey is working on new updates and what he will be bringing to online poker in 2015.

file474123808893060 Minutes is a long running CBS program that highlights top news stories and occurrences in pop culture as well as everyday life. The program has provided entertainment for decades and this weekend will feature a program on poker pro Phil Ivey. Ivey will be discussing his career as well as current legal battles where the pro is accused of cheating.

The special episode will air on October 7th and will be in interview form completed by James Brown. In the interview, Ivey will discuss edge sorting, which is the method of cheating in baccarat that the pro is accused of doing on two different occasions. Ivey will be defending his honor on the Sports section of the television series.

A teaser was released by CBS highlighting the Ivey interview and show Brown and the pro in Las Vegas during the most recent World Series of Poker. Brown asked poignant questions and Ivey was allowed to defend himself based on the cheating allegations.

Ivey decided to sue Crockfords Casino in May of last year after he was not paid $12 million he won at Punto Banco. The game is a form of baccarat and he is now fighting the casino to get paid. He also has a lawsuit with the Borgata Hotel Casino & spa in which he is being sued for $9.6 million after winning this amount at the baccarat tables. Both casinos are accusing Ivey of edge sorting and want to pro to pay the price for his actions.

Ivey and Cheng Yin Sun have been accused to taking the action to cheat the casino, which means the two spotted tiny variations in the cards printing patterns of the back to determine which cards are which. For now, Ivey will hope to regain his reputation and shed light on the subject of the lawsuits.
