US Online Gambling Revenue Estimates Lowered Considerably

Wednesday, April 1st, 2015

file4741238088930Online gambling has taken place for over a year now in the United States and has been quite successful for the states of Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey. However, despite each state seeing nice traffic numbers and significant revenues in the continually growing industry, the estimated revenues for the future of the industry have been lowered considerably.

According to reports by Morgan Stanley, the prediction of online gambling revenues has been cut almost in half based on the earnings thus far. Morgan Stanley is a top financial services company that offered an estimate for the market by 2020 and this number has now been reduced.

When the research was released, the firm showed that by 2020 the industry would be worth around $2.7 billion. This is almost half of the $5 billion in earnings which was estimated last year. Before last year’s estimate, Morgan Stanley had predicted that the industry would be at around $8 million by 2020.

The estimates appear to keep falling so either the online gambling industry is not thriving or reports are conflicted with what the firm thought would happen with the industry or the figures were just wrong. There are arguments for both sides, with some feeling the industry has not lived up to expectations while others feel as though the industry is doing just fine.

Morgan Stanley stated in their findings that they believe there is a material runway for growth but the results thus far have been disappointing. The firm believes the legislative processes have been slow as lawmaker are unconvinced that online gaming is not worth the hassle for the limited tax revenues.

It will be interesting to see how the industry is able to grow as additional states begin to get in on the online gaming action. There are several states considering legalization of poker or overall online gaming, including California and Pennsylvania.

Casino Robber Claims Theft Two Years Later

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Casinos are an environment where players can enjoy their favorite casino games. Casino operators hire dealers to control the games as well as additional employees to work certain areas of the casino. These employees must take care to follow the proper rules and regulations so that the casino is operating properly. In most cases, employees do as they should, but sometimes employees will try and cheat the casino to make a quick buck. When this happens, the employee ends up getting caught and losing their position, earning jail time.

A former employee of a casino in Nevada recently turned himself in for robbing the casino, even though the robbery took place two years previously. The employee, Dell Eugene Warfield III, turned himself in supposedly stealing over $160,000 from the gambling site.

The robbery took place in 2013 when Dell was working at the William Hill Race & Sports Book Primm Valley Resort and Casino. This facility is located in Stateline and Dell reportedly came into the casino and went straight to the state. He then opened the safe and took the cash from the casino. Dell knew the code to the safe since he was an employee of the casino.

The robbery was captured on camera at the casino but since the safe was accessed via the code, the alarm was not set off. An employee reportedly saw the heist take place and Dell was able to get away. The twenty four year old ended up turning himself in earlier this week on charges of theft and burglary.

It is unclear as to why he turned himself in and if there is any money remaining from the amount taken from the safe. When the robbery took place, Dell reportedly texted his dad, stating that he would not be hearing from him again after he got ‘caught up’.

888Poker To Power Interstate Online Poker Network

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014

It was just a few months ago that Delaware and Nevada came to an agreement to combine player pools for online game play to ensure a more competitive marketplace. The two states are small in population and need the numbers that a combined player pool can provide. The interstate compact is expected to begin this year and now 888 Holdings has been named as the provider of the poker network for the multi-state option.

In the current market, 888 is the provider of network software for specific Delaware and Nevada gaming sites. The company powers all three gaming sites in Delaware and Nevada has 888 has a provider for the WSOP site. A new site in Nevada is also expected to launch for Treasure Island and 888 will be powering this site as well. 888 will be running all six sites which will then be hosted on the new network provided by the same company.

The new 888 network is titled All American Poker Network and based on a recent press release, the new network aims to deploy a shared poker network across the two states that will offer players in each state an enhanced experience when it comes to online poker. The All American Poker Network already operates in New Jersey and 888 Poker New Jersey is currently the only room on the network.

Poker players in the US have been watching the partnership in Delaware and Nevada grow and the interstate state options will bring a new aspect to the online gaming market in the states. Other states that pass legislation for online poker have the option of joining the network and it will be interesting to see over time what happens as interstate poker begins to take shape. Only time will tell if additional states will begin to offer such gaming options as well.

International Olympic Committee and Nevada Form Partnership

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

The Olympics are back in action this year and are set to take place in Russia. As with every Olympic season, there is fear of cheating. Officials are afraid that participants or officials of the events will cheat for a financial gain. This is why committees are formed to combat this issue. This year, the Olympic Committee has requested the help of gaming regulators in the state of Nevada to help stop cheating during this year’s games.

Both groups will work together to provide information to stop any cheating from taking place. The partnership between the two groups will help to maintain the integrity of sports. The Olympic Committee wants to keep manipulation of the games at bay and stop any unfair winnings.

Sports books located in the state of Nevada will be able to provide wagering on the games this year and will work hard to provide information to the committee which can be used to stop manipulations. . Shawn Reid is a member of the Nevada Gaming Control Board and he stated that the board is honored to be working with the International Olympic Committee to combat irregular and illegal wagering on sports. Reid also stated that Nevada is held in high regard on a global scale of their gaming regulations.

The International Olympic Committee is also happy to be working with the state of Nevada. The information shared with the committee will be used to help create the Integrity Betting, Intelligence System. This system will be used for the first time this year and will collate alerts and information of manipulation of wagers on particular sports.

The IOC would like to see clean sports and protect the competitions, especially the events that pertain to wagering. The IOC ispleased to have come to agreements with Nevada and have the ability to build on what they started back in 2012 during the London Olympics.

New Jersey Online Poker Continues to Grow While Nevada/Delaware Stagnant

Thursday, January 16th, 2014

Online poker is readily available in three states in the US: Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey. Nevada was the first to launch followed by Delaware and then New Jersey. While many expected the state of Nevada to be the most successful, it was New Jersey that has been the most effective by offering online poker gaming. The state of New Jersey continues to grow steadily as Nevada and Delaware have gotten a little stagnant.

According to recent reports by Poker Scout, New Jersey has continued to see steady growth since first launching on November 21st. the state has seen very large spikes in member accounts and continue to see a nice growth in player accounts. At the same time, the state of Nevada and Delaware have seen a slowdown in member accounts. In January, Nevada saw a nice increase in player accounts but it is now back down in numbers.

Nevada is having trouble adding to their player numbers and after the WSOP.com launched, the member accounts seemed to slow down. The World Series of Poker will begin this May so it will be interesting to see if special promotions or satellites to events will see a large spike in player numbers.

Delaware has only seen just over 4,000 player accounts due to small population. Both Delaware and Nevada have discussed a partnership to see interstate game play but nothing has yet to come of these talks. If the two could work together, there would be larger player pools which would help both states generate more player traffic.

Online gambling is only a few months old so there is still time for Nevada and Delaware to catch up. Also, other states may come in the mix this year so it will be interesting to see if New Jersey will be able to keep the top spot.
