Party Poker Reschedules Event; Now Coincides with WSOP Main Event

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

party-poker-table-screenshotThe World Series of Poker is in full swing and in just a few weeks the main event will begin. This is of course the most anticipated event of the series and should see a nice number of players competing. Most everyone in the industry does not schedule events at the same time as the WSOP Main Event as they know they will see a lower number of players than if the event took place at a different time. However, this fact does not seem to be stopping Party Poker from offering a WPT event during the starting days of the highly anticipated main event.

The WPT500 at ARIA Resort & Casino is presented by Party Poker and was recently rescheduled to begin on the 4th of July and continue until the 9th of July. This will place the event in the same time frame as the beginning of the main event. The WPT tournament will have a buy-in of $565 and will have $1 million in guaranteed prize money which make it appealing to players.

The Aria is currently offering lower buy-in events starting today that will be in competition with events at the Rio as well. The Aria events have buy-ins of $235 to $340 with additional events with buy-ins of $150 and $175. Deepstacks, bounties and more will be offered at the Rio.

Once July 1st rolls around, the Aria will be hosting daily super satellites two times a day. These satellites will take place until the event begins on the 4th of July. During the series, the Aria will host a PLO tournament and two 2-7 Triple Draw events. A ladies event, senior’s event and two Open Face Chinese Shootouts are also on the schedule.

Party Poker is already offering satellites so you can earn a prize package worth $1,700 to compete in the WPT event. Included in the prize package is the tournament entry, accommodations and spending money. The satellites start at just $1, making it easy for players to compete for minimal cost.

Third WSOP Bracelet for Brock Parker

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

file4741238088930Since the start of the 2014 World Series of Poker, the players who have earned gold before seem to be stepping up to add to their collection. The most recent player to add gold to their collection is Brock Parker. Parker competing alongside 178 players to win the Omaha eight-or-better championship. The event had a buy-in of $10,000 and the pro earned $443,407 for his first place finish.

This is the third gold bracelet for Parker, who earned two bracelets in 2009 during hold’em six max tournaments. The pro was in good form so far in the WSOP tournaments, earning this win and a final table finish in the $1,500 Razz event which took place just a few days ago.

During the final day of the Omaha event, only 18 players headed to the felt. Parker had the second shorted stack of chips with only 90,000 but he would nail a few key hands to end up just short of 3 million for heads up play. His competitor was Richard Ashby, who held 5.3 million going in the final round.

Parker was able to take chips off of Ashley and by the time the final hand took place, Ashby was sitting with just a few big bets. On the final hand, Parker moved to raise on the button with 6-5-4-2 and Ashby choose to three bet with A-A-A-10. Parker called the bet and the flop showed 9-8-7 and Parkers straight made him the favorite to win. The 9 on the turn made Ashby hopeful but a 3 then secure the win for Parker and Ashby would settle for second place.

Final Payouts:

First                       Brock Parker                      $443,407

Second                 Richard Ashby                   $274,019

Poker Player Beats the Odds Winning Hollywood Poker Open Columbus Event

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014

file4741238088930When competing in a poker tournament, everyone knows the odds can be stacked against you. With a large field of competitors, it can be anyone’s game. When the tournament gets down to the final table and then the final two, the odds are certainly stacked against you if you are sitting at the felt with a major chip disadvantage. This is exactly what happened to Joey Couden. The player was able to overcome a 7 to 1 chip deficit to win the Hollywood Poker Open event in Columbus earlier this week.

The 2014 Hollywood Poker Open Columbus Regional Main Event recently finished up and Couden made it to the final round of play, only to find himself down with a 7 to 1 chip disadvantage. This is a huge deficit and one that many would not be able to overcome. However, Couden was persistent and managed to hang on, coming back and earning the first place win.

Couden told PokerNews that you can never let the thought of losing enter your mind and that the game is ‘a poison’ and he was born to win this tournament as he has been competing in the area since the age of 15.

Once the first day of the tournament was over, only 29 players remained. After day 2, only 13 players would be able to earn a payday and then the fight was on to see who would make the final two. In the end it was Couden and John Michalak. With the huge chip lead, one would imagine Michalak had the tournament in the bag, but that was not the case. Over three hours, Couden would make a comeback and eventually double up with A-10 suited. He would then take the lead and win with A-J against Michalak’s A-4 to earn the first place win.

US Market to Grow According to Ultimate Poker Chairman

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014

file4741238088930A recent Pokerfuse report points out that Ultimate Poker has created a video series featured on YouTube with videos created by Tom Breitling the Chairman of the company. The videos cover a variety of topics but one of the most recent releases has gained quite a bit of views based on the content. The video titled Lessons Learned—Market Size, covers the US market for online gambling and how Breitling believes the industry’s potential will be emerging soon.

In the video, Breitling states that Nevada, Delaware and New Jersey are only a representation of about 4% of the population in the US. Breitling stated that ‘most of us believe all Americans should be protected and have a chance to play the games they love’. The UP Chairman then stated that 91% of adults in the US have a mobile phone and 2 out of 3 have visited a land based casinos so ‘these folks will soon be playing online’.

In the video, Breitling stated that a breakthrough in the market is just around the corner and education and innovation are the driving force behind breaking through the US market. However, the video did not feature any specifics of the plans of the company to ‘break through the market’.

The video also discusses the poor revenues for the first year of operation with online poker and Ultimate Poker and Breitling just dismisses the information stated that the company can be compared to Google or Amazon. In the video, the Chairman states that you have to see this in the same way you might look at the numbers with Amazon. The Amazon Company did $35,000 in revenues for the first month and $500,000 for the first year back in 1995. Then by last year, the company was earning $74.5 billion in revenues. Breitling stated that the point is that you have to start somewhere. It will be interesting to se how the company progresses for the remainder of the year and if the market sees this breakthrough in the US.

Fast-Fold Poker Earns US Patent

Wednesday, May 14th, 2014

PokerStars is a top online gambling site that offers quality cash game and tournament options. The site continues to make updates and stay up to date with the latest technology and more. One variant that was added to the online poker room and tested to see if players liked the option is Fast-fold poker. Apparently the game has now earned a US Patent and this may hurt other sites that have added similar gaming options.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office decided in April of this year to issue a patent to the parent group of PokerStars and sister site Full Tilt Poker, The Rational Group, for the game of fast-fold poker. The patent was initially covered by news source Pokerfuse and then PokerNews, which stated that the USPTO will be giving The Rational Group a patent on May 20th of this year and the information on the patent will be ‘Computer gaming device and method for computer gaming’. The patent will be for Zoom Poker for sure, which is offered at PokerStars, but it is not clear if the patent will be for Rush Poker as well, which is Full Tilt’s variant.

The patent will not affect sites located outside the United States but will affect the variant type in the US. Regulated sites in the US will find that PokerStars owns the rights to fast-fold intellectual property once the patent is in place.

In the US, PartyPoker NJ and Borgata Poker offer a fast-fold game called Fast Forward, so once the patent is in place, these sites will have to make a deal with the Rational Group to continue to offer the game or litigation may take place. Other sites in the US such as 888 NJ, WSOP NJ and WSOP Nevada offer a similar game type called Snap Poker, which would face the same situation.

Molly Bloom Earns Probation in Illegal Gambling Case

Wednesday, May 7th, 2014

Molly-Bloom-042113L_1Known as the “Poker Princess” in the Russian mob-linked gambling case, Molly Bloom has earned only probation for her role in the gambling ring. The operation worked out of several cities in the United States including New York.  Tens of millions of dollars were apparently laundered in the process and Bloom’s role was to host the card games.

In the case, Bloom was accused of hosting the private games in major cities including New York, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. In the games in which Bloom hosted, celebrities were rumored to have taken part including Ben Affleck, Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon, Tobey Maguire and Alex Rodriguez. However, court findings have discovered that none of the celebrities were connected to illegal activities.

Bloom was charged in connection with games run in New York and last December she was seen in Manhattan Federal Court and admitted to moving the games from Los Angeles to Manhattan and running the games from two different hotels.

Bloom earned probation and was made to pay a fine of $1,000. She must also perform 200 hours of community service. Since this experience, Bloom has decided to create a memoir and asked the judge if the book would be in conflict with the remorse she showed to the court.

The attorney working for Bloom had asked for leniency as Bloom had only taken tips to co-host the event and then was eventually forced out when another co-host began to take a cut of the pot. She had earned $1 million hosting the games but had lost it and now works in a friend’s business making $19 an hour. Bloom could have been given as many as 5 years in prison but ended up with probation, which in her case was extremely lucky.

Missouri Looks to Extend Credit Limit On Riverboat Casinos

Friday, May 2nd, 2014

At every gaming facility around the world, there are credit limits. Gamblers are only allowed to gain so much credit during a visit to a casino. In the state of Missouri, a bill has reached the governor’s desk that would allow players to receive more credit for game play. The riverboat casinos would be able to extend larger amounts of cash to interested parties.

The riverboat gambling industry in the state needs a boost and this could be just the thing to get players going. During the first of April, the Senate of the state approved the increase via proposal and the vote was 24-9 in approval. The House also signed off on the proposal this week with a vote of 125-21.

The state currently has 12 riverboat gambling facilities and since the option was created in the early 90s, players have been shorted on the amount of credit they are given. The gambling industry has grown into a billion dollar business and the state wants to take advantage. Increasing credit limits is one way to do so.

With the new bill, the state would be able to provide lines of credit at an increased rate to those who are eligible. Players must apply and be approved for at least $10,000 in credit. The credit can only be issued via a credit instrument and the amount is not due until 30 days after the credit is issued. This is an unsecured loan and does not bear interest. An intoxicated person must not be given an extension.

In reality, the new measure would allow high rollers to enjoy time at the riverboat casinos. Currently, the casinos do not have an option for those who might want to wager large amounts of cash but are in need of credit.

Party Poker Brings Back Palladium Elite VIP option exclusive to New Jersey

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

party-poker-table-screenshotThe Palladium Elite VIP tier is one that was of the highest caliber at Party Poker. The option was deleted about a year ago to make Party Poker a more recreational gaming destination, but now the online poker room has added the option back but only to those who are located in New Jersey.

To reach this level of VIP status, the players at Party Poker must earn 10,000 points while playing either poker or casino games. The points are valid till the end of the quarter that the points were earned as well as the following gaming quarter.

With the new VIP level, players will have access to certain benefits. These benefits include access to VIP events that includes parties, concerts and sporting events. Players will have the opportunity to compete in exclusive tournaments in live game play as well as have discounts for the online poker room store. Palladium Elite hosts can provide anything a player needs to get started and there are also more bigger and more frequent bonusing opportunities or this VIP level.

This new VIP status was made available in the middle of April and players were given the incentive to reach the level by the 16th of the month by giving away tickets to the NJCOP. The point of the new VIP level is to get people playing at Party Poker. The New Jersey site already holds the top spot for players but as any online poker room knows, player liquidity is key.

The goal is to continue to gain player liquidity so the gaming tables are full and players will be happy to find a playing field online whenever they log on. Party Poker is doing a good job of bringing players in and keeping them interested so they can continue to be a leader in today’s gambling marketplace.

file4741238088930The World Series of Poker is one of the most popular poker series known around the world. Players converge from everywhere to compete in the many tournament events. A gold bracelet, bragging rights and cash money is the goal and most players will hit up Las Vegas and compete in multiple events, especially the pros.

Because of the series popularity, other groups usually do not host events as they know players will be participating in the WSOP. However, this year, the World Poker Tour has created a brand new event by Party Poker and it will take place at the same time as events of the WSOP.

The new event is titled PartyPoker presents: WPT 500 at ARIA and the event will run from July 1st to the 6th at the ARIA Resort & Casino which is in Las Vegas. This will also be the time of WSOP events so it will be interesting to see how well the tournament is for the WPT event.

The tournament will have a buy-in of just $500 + $65 and will have a guaranteed  prize pool of $1 million. The winner of the event will go home with at least $200,000 and five Day 1s will take place with a Day 2 that includes the final table on July 6th. Players will be able to compete in multiple Day 1st which will help to push the chip stacks further into game play.

The event will take place at the same time as popular WSOP events such as the Little One for One Drop, $10k PLO, $1,500 NLHE and the $1,500 10-Game Mix Six Handed event. The tournament will also run during the first two starting days of the Main Event. Jeffrey Has the Global Poker Director for PartyPoker stated that they expect more online qualifiers to participate in this event than any other poker tournament in Las Vegas so we shall see if the WSOP gets a run for their money!
