Ivey Poker Closes Temporarily

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014

file4741238088930After months of hype and promotion, Ivey Poker opened for players to learn the game of poker for a better experience at the felt or online. The site featured information from top pros including Ivey and offered services for beginners as well as intermediate players. The site first launched in January of this year and has now decided to close down on a temporary basis.

The online poker training site was founded and branded based on Phil Ivey and the pro has now announced the site will be taking a break. The announcement came via social media and on Twitter Ivey stated that the site will be closed to prepare for a better and bigger site.

Ivey stated that since the site was launched, a few things have been learned in the process. The site is dedicated to the loyal community base and they want to communicate to players that there will be changes coming over the next few months. The site has closed down, after this weekend, to begin the first steps to launch a bigger and better gaming experience for players.

Ivey further stated that they appreciate everything that players have done for Ivey Poker and they hope to continue to grow and evolve as 2015 arrives. Apparently the site is working on product extensions and new categories for the site for the coming New Year. With the announcement, the site also released a new video that shows new training content will be added next year for players to enjoy.

It will be interesting to see what Ivey has planned for 2015. Many are speculating that the pro is shutting down the site due to legal troubles with his case in London as well as Atlantic City based on edge sorting in baccarat. Only time will tell if Ivey is working on new updates and what he will be bringing to online poker in 2015.

Will High Stakes Poker be back to TV?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014

file4741238088930Poker players enjoy watching footage of the World Series of Poker on ESPN or catch a unique game when it airs on television. In the past, players had access to television shows based on the game of poker more often than not. It was easy to find a program to enjoy that focused on actual game play. However, now, without the WSOP, we would have next to nothing in regards to poker related television. High Stakes Poker was a popular option airing on GSN which provided us with quality poker programming. According to recent reports, the show may soon be back in action.

Pokernewsdaily reported that GSN recently posted a new video to their YouTube channel. In the video, GSN asked individuals to take part in a special survey. This survey was based on the show High Stakes Poker. With the survey, it seems as though GSN is considering bringing back the popular television show.

The survey asks the basics of the individuals such as age, location and gender but also asks how much television the viewer watches, if High Stakes Poker was watched and if the show was watched online or on television. The channel seems to be trying to determine what players want and if it will be worth bringing the show back.

The survey also asked what players thought of the hosts, Gabe Kaplan and Kara Scott. GSN wanted to know if the host is important and if players enjoyed the former hosts of the show. The company will most likely be considering if they will be bringing back the hosts or if new people need to be brought in to the show.

The High Stakes Poker show was first created in 2006 and premiered with top competitors such as Doyle Brunson and Daniel Negreanu. The show immediately became popular and players will surely be glad to see the show back in action on GSN. It will be interesting to see if the show will be revived and in one direction the show proceeds.

Wednesday, October 15th, 2014

In the poker industry, it is not uncommon to see poker players in the limelight. From television shows to televised poker games, professionals of the game find themselves on television quite often. Poker pros have found that they can create a great career by highlighting their skills on television. One poker pro was recently asked to appear on a different style television show but unfortunately turned down the proposal.

Phil Hellmuth is known as the Poker Brat in in the industry and is no stranger to the limelight. The pro never keeps his opinions to himself and continues to play great poker to be in the headlines. Hellmuth was recently asked to appear on Wife Swap, a top ABC program, but decided to turn the show down.

According to Hellmuth’s Twitter Account, he was asked to appear on the show, but his wife decided not to go through with it. Hellmuth stated: “Have an offer to be on ABC television show “Wife Swap,” but wife won’t do it! Though I’m SURE she would look amazing! #WifeIsAwesome”

So for now, Hellmuth will be sticking to the poker games and avoid the television program. Though it would be interesting to see the pro and his wife swapping lives with another family. On Wife Swap, you never know who you will be paired with and it would surely be a larger than life personality when considering the other couple would have been Phil Hellmuth!

The poker pro recently earned a 4th place finish during an Australian event for the World Series of Poker. The event marked the third time that Hellmuth made a final table since the summer. He continues to do well and even had the potential to earn his 14th WSOP bracelet, but ended up losing out with the 4th place finish.

60 Minutes to Discuss Lawsuits with Phil Ivey

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014

file474123808893060 Minutes is a long running CBS program that highlights top news stories and occurrences in pop culture as well as everyday life. The program has provided entertainment for decades and this weekend will feature a program on poker pro Phil Ivey. Ivey will be discussing his career as well as current legal battles where the pro is accused of cheating.

The special episode will air on October 7th and will be in interview form completed by James Brown. In the interview, Ivey will discuss edge sorting, which is the method of cheating in baccarat that the pro is accused of doing on two different occasions. Ivey will be defending his honor on the Sports section of the television series.

A teaser was released by CBS highlighting the Ivey interview and show Brown and the pro in Las Vegas during the most recent World Series of Poker. Brown asked poignant questions and Ivey was allowed to defend himself based on the cheating allegations.

Ivey decided to sue Crockfords Casino in May of last year after he was not paid $12 million he won at Punto Banco. The game is a form of baccarat and he is now fighting the casino to get paid. He also has a lawsuit with the Borgata Hotel Casino & spa in which he is being sued for $9.6 million after winning this amount at the baccarat tables. Both casinos are accusing Ivey of edge sorting and want to pro to pay the price for his actions.

Ivey and Cheng Yin Sun have been accused to taking the action to cheat the casino, which means the two spotted tiny variations in the cards printing patterns of the back to determine which cards are which. For now, Ivey will hope to regain his reputation and shed light on the subject of the lawsuits.

Poker Pros Removed from PokerStars Team

Thursday, September 25th, 2014

file4741238088930Every top online poker site has an official team made up of poker pros or uses professional team players as ambassadors to promote their product. PokerStars is the best when it comes to offering events with pros involved so you can take part in gaming action among your favorite players. It is not uncommon to see new pros added to the team list as young players begin to make a name for themselves. It is also not uncommon to see players taken off the top poker teams and PokerStars now seems to have lost three players from Team PokerStars.

Joe Cada is the first to go from the PokerStars pro team with his recent confirmation of not being part of the team anymore. The pro was removed from the team page at PokerStars and will no longer be associated with the site.

Also removed from the family page of PokerStars is Alex Kravchenko of Russia. Marcel Luske is another casualty of Team PokerStars as his information is also missing from the site. Both Kravchenko and Luske have not confirmed being removed from PokerStars, nor has PokerStars commented on removing the info from the website, according to information at F5Poker.

Since PokerStars was acquired by Amaya, the pros have been dropping left and right. Last month, Jose Barbero was released from the site, a Latin American poker pro. It is surprising that so many players have been removed from the site, especially Cada. With Cada being a top World Champion of the WSOP, one would think that the site would want a top pro on their site.

For now, PokerStars seems to be making changes when it comes to poker pros. It will be interesting to see what changes will be made with the poker pros at the site as Amaya begins to get ready for a re-launch in the United States.

Atlantic City Down to 8 Casinos

Wednesday, September 17th, 2014

file4741238088930The land based gaming environment in Atlantic City, New Jersey seems to be dwindling. The city now has only 8 casinos for land based casino game play after the Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino closed just yesterday morning. The casino’s closure is the fourth of the year and is not the best outcome for the gambling city.

The casino, which is located along the boardwalk, was opened back in 1984 and had been in operation for decades. The casino had been on a slow downward spiral, which was really sad for many to watch. The casino which had once reveled with hundreds of players only had a handful on the premises when the doors would close.

The Trump Plaza was able to earn just over $36 million this year which is over 30% less than the same time frame last year. As a comparison, the casino earned in one year the same as some Atlantic City casinos earn in a two week time frame. With the closure of this casino and possibly the Taj Mahjal in coming weeks, the city would be down over 10,000 jobs and more, which is a big hit to the city.

The poker community was not necessarily affected by the closure of the Trump Plaza as they did not have a poker room, but the Taj Mahal does. The casino has 48 gaming tables which means it is the second largest in the city. If the casino closes in November, which it may very well do, then poker players in Atlantic City would only have five poker rooms to enjoy.

The state now offers online gaming to try and pick up the slack where land based options left off but operators must be connected to a physical casino in the state to be able to offer online gaming. With the losses, operators have even less partners than before to get in on the online poker action.

Caesars Casino to Offer New Online Gambling Campaign

Wednesday, September 10th, 2014

file4741238088930Caesars Casino is hoping to bring more gamblers to their online gaming sites by pushing a new television advertising campaign this winter. The casino believes that cold weather will help to bring more players online and help to boost online gambling numbers. Starting this month, the casino will begin showing a new advertising campaign on television that will help to show that online gambling is legal in New Jersey and that the casino offers more than 120 gambling games online.

The Vice President of Digital Marketing at Caesars Entertainment, Adrian Bailey, stated that the casino wanted to make the public more aware of what the casino was offering online and then highlight the market what kinds of games are available during online game play.

According to Bailey, the advertisements for online gambling tend to die down in the summer months due to casinos assuming that players are visiting land based facilities. As the weather starts to worsen and the cold sets in, players do not travel as freely and Caesars wants to take advantage of this by advertising to the public what options are available online.

Caesars not only is reminding players that they can participate in gambling online but also on several devices. You can enjoy the gaming at Caesars online via PC, mobile tablet or mobile device. Most players still game on the PC but more players are starting to use Smartphones to take advantage of online gambling games. Mobile gaming is gaining in popularity and Caesars wants players to understand that there are several formats for gaming and actual games to enjoy.

It will be interesting to see if the advertising campaign will help to bring more players to Caesars or if the numbers stay the same. One would assume that as the weather gets colder, players will take advantage of the option to play at home with online gaming capabilities.

888Poker To Power Interstate Online Poker Network

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014

It was just a few months ago that Delaware and Nevada came to an agreement to combine player pools for online game play to ensure a more competitive marketplace. The two states are small in population and need the numbers that a combined player pool can provide. The interstate compact is expected to begin this year and now 888 Holdings has been named as the provider of the poker network for the multi-state option.

In the current market, 888 is the provider of network software for specific Delaware and Nevada gaming sites. The company powers all three gaming sites in Delaware and Nevada has 888 has a provider for the WSOP site. A new site in Nevada is also expected to launch for Treasure Island and 888 will be powering this site as well. 888 will be running all six sites which will then be hosted on the new network provided by the same company.

The new 888 network is titled All American Poker Network and based on a recent press release, the new network aims to deploy a shared poker network across the two states that will offer players in each state an enhanced experience when it comes to online poker. The All American Poker Network already operates in New Jersey and 888 Poker New Jersey is currently the only room on the network.

Poker players in the US have been watching the partnership in Delaware and Nevada grow and the interstate state options will bring a new aspect to the online gaming market in the states. Other states that pass legislation for online poker have the option of joining the network and it will be interesting to see over time what happens as interstate poker begins to take shape. Only time will tell if additional states will begin to offer such gaming options as well.

Station Casinos Shut Down Second Poker Room

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

file4741238088930Station Casinos Inc is an operator in Nevada that is part of the land based and online poker gaming in the state. The company has offered land based poker gaming and casino options for many years and jumped on the opportunity to offer online poker as well once iGaming was made available. While the company has their hands in several areas and seems to be doing well, they have now shut down two poker rooms over the past few months.

The first Station Casino poker room to close was the Sunset Station’s poker room which consisted of eight gaming tables. This past week, Station Casino then decided to close the Texas Station poker room which is located in the north area of Las Vegas. This poker room was also eight tables and leaves the company with only five additional poker rooms.

With five remaining poker rooms, the company is able to operate just under 80 poker tables. The closing of the two poker rooms is nothing new as poker rooms seem to be closing across the United States. There are just over 80 poker rooms available in the state currently and this is the least amount since the mid-2000s. The amount of poker rooms though does not seem to be affecting the earnings for poker in the state. Earnings for both live and online poker were up last year as compared to 2012 and should only continue to increase this year as well.

Many argue that online poker will cause a lack of brick and mortar poker gaming but the poker rooms in Nevada have suffered for years before the option was allowed last year. It will be several more months before we can see how online poker has affected the overall gambling industry in the state of Nevada, most likely 2015 before we can see a clear picture.
