Dan Kelly On a WSOP Cash-Out Roll

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

The 2013 World Series of Poker is in full swing and many pros and amateurs are doing quite well in the many different events. Players dream of earning a gold WSOP bracelet but most have to settle for cashing out, which is still great! One pro is doing quite well in this year’s WSOP and has managed to cash out a whooping six times during the series. The tournament series still has many events left and Kelly may soon be able to break the current record for the most cash outs earned in one year of WSOP game play.

The current record for most cash outs in a single WSOP is held by Konstantin Puchkov. The pro was able to earn eleven cash outs last year and Kelly would have to win 6 more events to beat the current record. Kelly is on a good pace and if he continues his momentum, he should be able to surpass Puchkov by a large number of cash outs.

Kelly is currently competing in Event #21 of the WSOP which is a shorthanded no-limit hold’em tournament with a buy-in of $3,000. As of today, Kelly is in the top 13 with game play to resume later today. He is already in the money so one more cashout can be added to his total. Kelly is earning a great amount of cash in this year’s WSOP as he is already up over $400,000.

It will be interesting to see if Kelly will be able to maintain his momentum in the WSOP and continue to earn cash outs in the events he competes in. we may see a brand new record created soon and one that could pay off handsomely for the poker pro! We will continue to cover Kelly’s game play and report as he continues his plight.

Poker Progress Could Lead To Increase in Poker Television

Friday, June 7th, 2013

Years ago, it was not uncommon to see a variety of poker programs on television. From NBC’s Heads Up Poker to Poker After Dark and of course the WSOP footage, poker footage was not lacking. However, after online poker dissolved in the US, poker shows quickly went off the air. However, with the progress of online poker in the US, many believe that poker shows will now be back in action.

According to a recent article by Reuters, the recent legalizing of online poker should see poker shows back on the television. Jamie Horowitz of Walt Disney’s ESPN stated that online poker should introduce many new people to the game and this should bring a new audience for online poker. It is the ESPN network that offers the World Series of Poker footage and they are currently filming events at the 2013 WSOP.

Because of the upswing of online poker, those in the television industry have begun to discuss new ideas for poker programming. Reality shows that cover female players as well as new online gaming selections are all under consideration. However, some are wary of creating new poker television shows because the option is only available in a few states.

It was back in the early 2000s that poker programming really took off and saw great numbers in ratings and viewings. However when Black Friday hit, in mid April 2011, poker shows pulled off the air as networks did not want to be involved with the charges of money laundering, fraud and more.

However, times seem to be changing for the good in the area of online poker in the US and hopefully fans and players will soon be able to frequently see the games on television and enjoy watching as much as they love playing the game.

WSOP Sets High Buy-in of Males in Female Event

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

The World Series of Poker is the most anticipated tournament series on the planet and pros and amateurs from around the globe converge in Las Vegas during the summer to compete in various WSOP events. The events range in buy-in and format but one thing is for certain, the winner will earn the coveted WSOP gold bracelet. One event available for players to enjoy is the Ladies option. Unfortunately very few women compete in the predominantly male field of poker so the Ladies event is an option for women to enjoy. However, men still manage to compete in this event as well.

Despite the fact that the event is catered to women only, the WSOP cannot discriminate and ban men from competing in this event. Most men are courteous and do not register to compete in the event but there are a few who just don’t care and compete anyway. Seth Palansky a spokesperson for the WSOP commented on these types of men stating: “Usually they are obnoxious and disrespectful. It’s usually a man who probably doesn’t have a mother…some men are disgusting, unfortunately.”

So to try and discourage men from competing in the ladies only event, the WSOP has set a very high buy-in for men: $10,000. Women who want to compete will be able to take advantage of a very high discount of $9,000 and pay only $1,000 to compete. The increase buy-in for men is considered legal per a new law from 2011 in the state which says the women are able to enjoy reduced prices on certain items including drinks, food, entertainment, nightclubs and casinos.

Hopefully the higher buy-in will discourage any men from registering to compete in the women’s only event. However, if not, the women can just take out the men and make them look like the fools they are!

Maryland Casino To Open Large Poker Room This Summer

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

The state of Maryland is home to Maryland Live! A new casino that is available to gamblers in the area. The casino offers a nice selection of gaming option and has just announced they are planning on opening up a very large poker room in the coming months.

The new poker room is expected to launch this summer and will be almost 15,000 square feet in size. The room will have fifty poker tables and will push the number of poker tables the casino now offers to 120. This will be a very nice poker room and will be the home to many a poker tournament.

Maryland Live! released a press package on the new poker room which read: “The Poker Room at Maryland Live! Casino promises to be one of largest poker rooms in the Mid-Atlantic region to accommodate the overwhelming demand for the games. With more than 50 tables, a dedicated tournament floor, varied limits, and high-profile partnerships, the poker operation at Maryland Live! is expected to draw customers from the local Mid-Atlantic region and across the country.”

It was late 2012 that voters in the state voted to approve the measure which would allow the new casino gaming options. The casinos are also now allowed to remain open every day of the week, every hour of the day. The casino has already seen great numbers with their regular gaming options but the addition of even more poker rooms should see even more pros and amateur players hit the casino to compete in regular cash games as well as tournament options.

The new poker room is expected to launch this summer which should be very soon. June is almost upon us and the casino will most likely continue to announce the poker room as it

Electronic Poker Tables Facing Shutdown in Wisconsin

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

As many states in the US have began to expand existing gambling options – as well as online options –  for the first time, the state of Wisconsin has been dealt an unfortunate setback in that very niche. The state made the news earlier in the week as the state Attorney General is trying to shut down a popular Madison poker room.

On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Attorney General’s Office filed a suit with the US District Court against the Ho-Chunk Casino. The casino is located in Madison, Wisconsin, and is completely ran by the local tribes in the area. According to popular gaming news portal http://www.toptenpokersites.org it is also one the premier gambling destinations in the state.

The suit states that poker is not ‘explicitly authorized’ in the state and is ‘explicitly prohibited’ by the state law. Even though the poker gaming options are electronic in nature, the state does not feel as though the game is legally valid.

The Ho-Chunk tribe does not feel that the state is correct. Their tribal leaders feels that these particular electronic poker options should be allowed as they provide an opportunity for players to compete against each other instead of the house.

The Ho-Chunk tribe is allowed to offer table gaming options at the Black River Falls, Nekoosa and Wisconsin Dells locations but the Tomah and Madison locations are supposed to have much more restricted options. Last year the tribe saw their contract restricting poker options at the Madison property. The agreement with Ho-Chunk and the state of Wisconsin states that the tribe is allowed to have as many as three Las Vegas style gambling locations.

The remaining facilities have to maintain the Class II gaming license and the state feels that the tribe has not done enough to warrant keeping their existing license to have such gaming options available to its patrons.

It will be interesting to see if the state will win this argument or if the tribe will be able to continue their electronic poker options, which have proven to be popular in certain Las Vegas casinos.  The company behind PokerTek is one of the leading electronic poker brands being used today.

Poker Players Find Love with New Dating Site

Thursday, May 9th, 2013

Are lonely at the poker table? Need a significant other to play Heads up with? A new dating website might be just what you need. It is hard enough to find someone special and poker players are no different. Millions of people use dating sites such as eHarmony but now poker players have a new site specifically for their main interest: Poker. PokerRomance.com is a new dating site that is supposed to connect poker players with new people so a connection can possibly be made.

The poker dating site is dedicated to helping fans of the game find potential partners or at least a date or two. The site offers a search tool so players can enter in traits they are looking for to find the perfect person. The site helps everyone find someone in their area so it is easier than ever to find someone to spend time with.

Players would need to create a dating profile and then list things about themselves to be able to find other people who are single and looking for someone like you! Matches will then be able to contact each other to meet up.

After making a profile, you can look through other profiles to try and find someone to meet and possibly set up a date. This new option is perfect for those who have tried dating sites before but want someone with more similar interests or at least someone who enjoys the game of poker.

The new site was covered by Card Player and seems to be run by the same company. It will be interesting to see if players begin to find love at the site and if any top pros get in on the dating action! Who knows, we may see new couples emerge during the WSOP if pros begin to use the site for love
